Course Description: This course is an elementary introduction to the principles and methods of linguistics. It is designed to be the first course in linguistics, and, thus, no prior knowledge of linguistics is assumed. The topics to be discussed during the academic year include the central areas of current linguistic research, i.e. morphology, syntax, semantics, phonetics and phonology, along with other important areas such as acquisition, language processing, social linguistics and historical linguistics.
